If I used a Mac for work, I would just use MindNode (which is intelligently designed and developed.) However, I don't have that option. I have wasted a bit of money, about $60 equiv, I don't mind spending money for tools I need/want but I want something that works well especially if I'm paying for the thing. The images are then split into 2 separate tabs, with one being clip-art like (without the option to realistically add) and they seem half complete (perhaps they worked off one of their own brainstormed maps exported to PowerPoint.) The second image tab is pretty much just a mini selection of random, mainly irrelevant clipart, but with more colour. The icons are great, they also make sense. However, the image categories are odd in XMind. Other than creating nodes, I tend to make decent use of images. It is not just a case of lazy development, it also shows a serious lack of testing and planning.
I do not understand why they would say it exports to PDF, or Powerpoint when it minimises nodes automatically, and the Powerpoint is often incorrect and/or has various nodes truncated out of frame. I consider this ethically dubious, given that they are charging for this. However, even worse the export functionality is a joke. In making it flashy, they have neglected to make it operationally feasible. I don't understand why they chose such a large minimum window size (13" screens hate this), nor why they chose to hide the option for images/icons as a separate (un-repositionable) window that you either have to set a non-standard shortcut to activate or go 3 steps clicking until you get it. The new UI is clunky, the sidebars cannot be moved around. I am pretty sure I have not just forgotten the keys as the mechanical keyboard I use works well in other apps and by design gives feedback. I don't remember the product being so slow before, I have a reasonably fast system with a lot of memory, yet this thing takes ages (particularly during exports, and switching between nodes.) You may also find that the app doesn't respond well to keystrokes at times, so you may think you've created a new sibling or child node only for it to have just over-written the previous node. It is slow, clunky, and operationally poor. I purchased the subscription version and really wish I could get a refund now. I have no idea how XMind (a company whose product was improving) could take such a serious step back.
